SANDSIL-123 M is a sodium- silicate base binder with adjusted ratio of Na2O : SiO2 for making moulds and cores by Co2 process.
This product is specifically designed where cores are prepared by shooting process.
SANDSIL-123M - Co2 process is based on principle of precipitation silicate solution by Co2.
The reaction proceeds as under :
SiO2 + Na2O + H2O (L)+Co2 (g) ----> H2CO3+ Na2O+ SiO2
Carbonic acid reacts with sodium silicate and forms silica gel
H2CO3+ Na2O+ SiO2-------> SiO2 (gel) + Na2 Co3 . H2O (glass)
Na2O 2SiO2.H2O +Co2 -----> Na2 Co3 + 2SiO2 + H2O contd. gassing
Na2 Co3 + 2SiO2 + H2O -------------> 2 Na2HCO3+2SiO2 (Silica – Gel )
Dehydrates the Gel giving bond When the SANDSIL is mixed with Sand, the sand grains are covered with a thin film of SANDSIL, on blowing Co2 gas, the individual Sand grains are cemented to each other at their contact points by Silica–Gel to give a firm bond.
- Dry Silica Sand (AFS55#65): 100 Parts
- SANDSIL : 4 to 5 Parts.
- 3 to 4 Minutes
- Mixed Sand should be covered with wet cloth for increasing the bench life.
