Sandsil is a Sodium-base binder with adjusted ratio of Na2O : SiO2 for making moulds and cores by Co2 process

The Process

SANDSIL-Co2 process is based on principle of precipitation Silicate Solution by Co2 The reaction proceeds as under

Na2O 2SiO2 +Co2 ------------------------------------------------ Na2 Co3 + 2SiO2 + H2O ------------------------------------------------ 2 Na2HCO3+2SiO2
(Silica – Gel) dehydrates the Gel giving bond

When the SANDSIL is mixed with Sand, the sand grains are covered with a thin film of SANDSIL, on blowing Co2 gas, the individual Sand grains are cemented to each other at their contact points by Silica –Get to give a firm bond.

  • Dry Silica Sand (AFS55#65) : 100 Parts
  • SANDSIL : 4 to 5 Parts.
  • Breakdown Agent : 1.5 to 2 Parts.

Physical properties of PAT RELEASE – 7019 are as follows :

  • 3 to 4 Minutes.
  • Mixed Sand should be covered with wet cloth for increasing the bench life.

Immediate after gassing 40 – 60 PSI.
1 Hours 80 – 100 PSI.
4 Hours 120 – 140 PSI.
24 Hours 160 – 180 PSI
Breakdown  
980˚C For 5 Minutes. 20-30 PSI.
